2022 Walk Like MADD & MADD Dash Fort Lauderdale We Were There
First and Foremost we were more than glad we were around to volunteer for another cause that is dear to my heart. I remember when Mothers Against Drunk Driving started, in September 1980 I was 9 years old and this was big news even by me in Jersey.
What you need to understand was that the drinking and driving back then was not really seen as a big deal. I can remember the police pulling over a family friend and making him dump his beer and that was it have a good night. And Many kids my sister’s age were going from Jersey to NYC because the drinking age was lower getting drunk and driving home sadly many did not make it or they did make it but did end up killing someone on the way home.
It got to the point where it was every weekend till many people stepped up and said this is a problem, I can remember a few neighborhood kids. And many years later my own friends getting killed in drinking and driving accidents. I even drove past one and had no idea I just talked to him a week ago in a barbershop. His funeral and church service still haunt me and I still can’t believe it’s been 30 years.
So before I go any further Please Please Please do not drink and drive, and I get it many are going through a rough time so they drink. But if you choose to drive you may end up hurting someone else and hurting two lives two families not to mention you have to live with what you did forever. Get an Uber, Lyft, or Taxi.
